I had just finished facilitating a half day Self Resilience – The Key to Thriving Through Change workshop, and I was on cloud 9. I sported a grin from ear to ear feeling an energy surge run through my body. I practically felt like I was bouncing in the air as I was taking each step as I started to clean up the room. What had made that session so incredible?
- I designed my Self-Resilience Indicator exploring 8 facets of resilience through change about 5 years ago. My intention was always to facilitate a half day workshop. Up until now I had the pleasure of facilitating different versions of the workshop ranging from 45 minutes to 2 hours. This was the first time I facilitated the four hour version and it felt like a dream come true.
- I felt so blessed that an organization saw the value of investing in their employees to offer such a personal workshop. I explore deep personal topics such as identifying trigger points and strategizing how to respond when we are hijacked. I had participants openly sharing challenges as well as best practices and tips with other colleagues. I felt honored participants were openly sharing their challenges and struggles. I saw the “light bulbs” go off as many participants experienced “aha” moments.
- I integrated singing into the workshop by performing snippets of songs that related to the Self-Resilience facets. Not only were people entertained, they also appreciated my modeling the power of vulnerability with them through my singing. I shared how we are at our strongest when we are willing to let people in and see the good, the bad, and the not so pretty. They liked the fact that I was willing to share in this unique and sometimes risky manner.
In short, it felt like close to the perfect day (although I don’t believe in perfection): getting paid to do what I love in a creative way – knowing that I am making a positive impact on the participants’ lives. It doesn’t get better than that!! Days like this affirm that I am on target and that my tribe exists. This wonderful day gives me hope for many more similar days in 2013 and beyond!
You never cease to amaze me!
Thanks so much Deborah! I am happy the blog post had meaning for you!
Warmly,
Rachel
